Saint Paul's Bay

Saint Paul's Bay

A small, almost-enclosed bay on the south side of the Acropolis rock, opening to the Aegean through a narrow gap in the cliff. Local tradition holds that Saint Paul landed here in AD 51 to bring Christianity to Rhodes — the small whitewashed chapel above the cove is named for him.

The water is shallow and warm in summer, sheltered from wind on all but the strongest south days. Sand and pebbles. There are a handful of sun-bed concessions in season, and a small taverna on the path down. No road access — the only way in is a ten-minute walk down a stepped path from the chapel.

The chapel hosts weddings in summer; if you are walking down between June and September on a Saturday afternoon you may find one. The path back up is steep but short.
